Warhammer Online – Single Profile

In a recent change, Warhammer Online now allows you to set your toons to use a specific profile.  This is both a good and bad thing.  The good – Easy to share profiles, and descriptive names.  The bad – no built in way to share profiles.  In order to pass along the information, I’ve decided I would go ahead and write up a quick ‘howto’ on sharing a single profile among many characters.

This process is in no way supported by Mythic.  It should also be noted that you should have some rudimentary skills if you’re going to do this, which is probably true since you’re messing with your UI.  :)

Replace bold words with the appropriate words.

  1. If you are running windows xp download the Windows Server 2003 Resource kit, and install it.
  2. Open a command prompt and change to your Warhammer online directory.
  3. Change to your user directory
  4. create a profile name (ie dps, heals, etc…)
  5. change to your settingsservernamecharacter’s directory
  6. For vista ‘mklink /j ……ProfileName’ and press enter.  For Windows xp replace mklink /j with linkd ‘linkd ……ProfileName’ and press enter.
  7. This will create a new profile in that toons directory that you can activate in game.  Repeat this process as necessary.
  8. Set the profile up in game.
  9. Now you have a shared profile, or multiple shared profiles.

Hope this helps.

My UI

Ok, based on some feedback, and some thinking, I believe I’ve finalized my UI.  At least until some different RvR add ons are released, and i can change how my zone tracking is working.

I’ve included pictures of my DPS and Healer setups, since there are slight variations between the two.

On the healer, I always include the Defensive and offensive target, but while on DPS I only include the offensive target.

I also use two different themes for Squared.  While on DPS I keep up a group of bars for my WB/SC unit frames, but I use the Squares while I’m healing…it draws my eye more quickly to someone that might need a heal.

Anyone that has a career bar, gets the PURE Career bar addon.  I’ve also hidden my morale bar, and just use Morale Hotbar to put the skills on my hot bar.

Pictures and add on links are below.  Tell me what you think.  :)

Updated 05/14/2009 : Added two new addons, and made some minor tweaks to the UI.

Apoc and I signed up for the Arena Tournament realm…it was all right, but I think it showed us both that WoW’s end game PvP is pretty boring.

Rather than have nothing to do, we’ve signed up for Warhammer Online and we are in the middle of leveling up a few toons there to play with in the end game.  We’ll see how we like it.

At this point there is no telling which games we’ll end up really liking when we are max level…just have’ to wait and see.

Ret FTW!

Today I respeced into Retribution from Protection. I still have mostly prot gear but decided to go test out the new spec with some trouble in the barrens. With tank gear on and firey axe in hand, I headed into Tarren Mill to stirr-up a little trouble. I quickly wiped out all NPS’s, even killing the Flight Master and one for his Pets before death struck. Wow, what an improvement! In tank spec I would have been attacking for days. After my death I happen upon a 75 Death Knight out for some revenge, well Bring It! With all my cool downs spent I trudged into battle with someone 8 levels higher, and surprise surprise I managed to get him down to 4K health. With cool downs up I feel confident that I could have taken him out. What an improvement Ret makes for PvP, we shall see its impact on questing.

One Step Closer

Last night Liqiud and I hit 67 on our mains. 70 is just so close I can taste it! When we hit 70 I will be graced with a flying mount, alas not epic, but still it gets me off the ground when mining. At least Jorren (my main) has Crusader Aura, bringing the piddly 60% speed up to a more respectable 80%.

Launch

Pro…that’s right, we’re pro.

Not really…we’ve been around the block a few times, in a few games, and it’s what we do.  We played Guildwars for a while, we even did pretty good for a while.  Alas when PvE nerfs caused PvP to suck, it was time to move on.

We’ve played CoH/CoV and that was all right, but very unbalanced at first, and not very much fun.

We’ve played Conan, and that PvP was just no good at first…i’m sure it’s gotten better, but we haven’t checked it out since then.

We’ve played Eve online and that just wasn’t to be.

We’ve played Warhammer online, and while it is fun for PvP, it wasn’t quite ready yet…so we’ll probably pick it back up again in the next few months.

We’re currently playing WoW, leveling up on a PvP server…that’s very interesting, and it’s lots of fun to have some ripe targets floating around as we level up.  So for the time being that’ll probably be the focus of our posts.
